Rant About the Interview vs Layoff Process
Inspired by a post I saw a couple days ago
Tech layoffs are a hot subject as companies continue to wipe out employees by the thousands. Successful employee for 15 years? Later, should of tried management earlier. Had a kid? Tell that kid their mother didn’t make the cut. New guy who’s been around for 6 months? Hmm, let’s talk about all these opportunities to grow.
Did any of these decisions require some sort of process? Or was it lazily done based on spreadsheets and algorithms?
Now, compare that to the insanely long interview process. One person requires multiple hours, multiple employees, and a whole lot of waiting. Combine all these hours and salaries to put one ass in a seat. On the contrary, a company will wipe out thousands within a short period of time without any real explanation.
Hmm, who’s the entitled asshole again? You’re right, it’s the employee who grinded through the interview to receive an email saying they’re canned.
I’ve had my fair share of ridiculous interview processes chasing that FAANG dream. Even though I absolutely bombed the Google process, I do remember all the steps as it stuck out in my mind.
