Microsoft Campus is Weird

Is MAANG still the dream?

I caught a drone video of Microsoft’s campus and realized they’re silently taking over Redmond, WA. With 125 buildings and 53,576 individuals employed, Microsoft is a force to be reckon with. On top of that shuttles, pedestrian bridges, and plans to extend the light rail to a station paid for by Microsoft. Is this paradise or just weird?

Well if you read the title, this is super weird. Companies trying to build entire cities where day to day life from work, eating, working out, commuting and hanging out with co-workers all revolve around the campus. Sure, Microsoft thought COVID wasn’t going to happen and built this up, but this was weird before then. As an employee, do you want to live your entire life controlled by a single company? Sure these benefits are great to have and make things convenient, but at what cost?

I’ve seen a lot of posts advertising Microsoft as the place to be, salaries are competitive with other top companies, great benefits, emphasis on vacation time and great culture (debatable as I’m basing this off word of mouth). However, should the entire world you’re in revolve around work? No, and it’s weird that people think like this. Plenty of things to do that aren’t offered at Microsoft campus. I don’t like seeing giant companies taking over trying to push a way of life.
